Detroit Lions Strengthen Secondary with Signing of Veteran Cornerback D.J. Reed
The Detroit Lions have made a strategic move to enhance their defensive lineup by signing veteran cornerback D.J. Reed to a three-year contract worth up to $48 million, with $32 million guaranteed.

This signing comes in the wake of Carlton Davis's departure to the New England Patriots, as the Lions look to reinforce their secondary ahead of the 2025 season. Reed, who turned 28 in 2024, brings a wealth of experience to the Lions.
Originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Reed has showcased his skills across three NFL teams, accumulating six career interceptions, 414 combined tackles, and 51 passes defensed.
After a challenging start with the 49ers, where he was waived due to a non-football injury designation, Reed found his footing with the Seattle Seahawks before signing a three-year, $33 million deal with the New York Jets in March 2022.
