Detroit Lions Sign Veteran Corner Kendall Fuller To Practice Squad
Fuller’s arrival gives Detroit an immediate veteran option in a secondary that’s been stretched thin
Kendall Fuller: Veteran Corner Fighting For One More Shot
When you talk about experience in the NFL secondary, Kendall Fuller’s name carries weight. A nine-year veteran, a Super Bowl champion, and a proven ballhawk, Fuller has seen just about everything the league can throw at him. After a turbulent 2024 season, he’s looking to prove he still has something left in the tank.
Career Snapshot
Fuller entered the league in 2016 as a third-round pick by Washington. Over the years, he’s suited up for Washington on two separate stints (2016–17, 2020–23), the Kansas City Chiefs (2018–19), the Miami Dolphins (2024), and now finds himself on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad. Along the way, he’s played in 128 games with 104 starts, racking up 536 tackles, 82 passes defended, and 16 interceptions. His biggest moment? A game-sealing interception in Super Bowl LIV, helping Kansas City secure the Lombardi Trophy.

Contract Journey
Fuller’s career earnings tell the story of a player once valued as a cornerstone starter.
His rookie deal in Washington was modest — just over $3 million.
After being traded to Kansas City, he became a key piece of their championship defense.
In 2020, Washington brought him back on a 4-year, $40 million deal, paying him like a top-20 corner.
Most recently, Miami signed him to a 2-year, $15 million contract in 2024. But injuries cut that stint short, and he was released this past offseason in a move that saved the Dolphins nearly $3 million in cap space.
2024 Season in Miami
Before the injuries piled up, Fuller was still producing. He started 11 games for the Dolphins, posting 50 tackles, seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and a 66.2 PFF grade. While that grade was a step down from his usual standard, it’s worth noting that Fuller has earned PFF marks of 70 or higher in every season since 2017 except for two: 2020 and last year. That consistency speaks to his reliability when healthy.
Injury Concerns
The 2024 season was rough. Fuller suffered two concussions and later a knee injury in Week 16 against San Francisco that landed him on injured reserve. He missed six games in total, and Miami moved on in February. Now with Detroit, the question isn’t about his skill — it’s about durability.
Fit in Detroit
Fuller represents veteran insurance in a banged-up secondary. At 5-foot-11, 198 pounds, Fuller has primarily lined up as an outside cornerback throughout his career. That’s exactly where the Lions need help right now, with D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, and Avonte Maddox all expected to miss this week’s matchup against Tampa Bay. Fuller’s arrival gives Detroit an immediate veteran option in a secondary that’s been stretched thin. He brings championship pedigree, versatility to play inside or outside, and the kind of football IQ you only get from nearly a decade in the league. I expect the Lions will fastrack his readiness and expect Fuller to play next Monday vs the Bucs.
