Detroit Lions — The front office executed a series of roster maneuvers on Tuesday to shape the 90-man unit as veterans report to training camp. The team signed veteran linebacker Troy Reeder and released defensive tackle Jay Tufele. Additionally, safety Christian Izien and offensive guard Christian Mahogany were placed on the active/non-football injury list.

Troy Reeder arrives as a known commodity to general manager Brad Holmes. Holmes was the Rams’ director of college scouting when Los Angeles signed Reeder as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Over seven seasons, Reeder has appeared in more than 100 NFL games.
He provides specialized value as a special teams ace and rotational linebacker. With Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, and Malcolm Rodriguez securing the top of the depth chart, Reeder is not competing for a starting role. Instead, his addition offers immediate special teams stability and veteran processing speed at the back end of the linebacker room.
