Hutchinson entered camp without the same rehabilitation questions that affected the previous offseason. That allowed him to spend his summer sharpening pass-rush technique against NFL tackles instead of measuring whether his body could simply tolerate a normal workload, giving him a cleaner runway into Week 1.
Reporter’s question: “How did you assess your play and just kind of where you think your game is at heading into week one?”
Aidan Hutchinson said the camp produced real progress, explaining, “I feel great, man. I feel like I got a lot better this camp.” He added, “Your game evolves and going against the talented guys that we have, you really do get better.” Hutchinson continued, “I feel really confident right now ... I feel like I got everything in my repertoire to get it done this year.”

The Lions missed the playoffs after carrying championship expectations into 2025. Hutchinson has enough experience with this roster to understand both the team’s ceiling and how quickly a season can move the other direction. His approach is to keep that disappointment from becoming the focus of the current defense.

Hutchinson acknowledged the motivation but rejected dwelling on it, saying, “There’s a chip. I’ve never been like a big chip guy.” He added, “I don’t dwell on the past too much.” Hutchinson instead pointed forward: “Whatever’s happened in the past is forgotten and we’re just going to focus everything we have on this year.”
