DETROIT LIONS — With 1:08 remaining, the game tied 17–17 and the end zone within reach, Jahmyr Gibbs made a decision that rarely earns a place on the highlight reel. He gained eight yards on third-and-6, secured a first down and deliberately stopped at Green Bay’s three-yard line rather than score. The Packers wanted him in the end zone so Jordan Love could have one final possession. Gibbs understood the situation and refused to give them the football.
It was the defining moment of Sunday’s 20–17 victory at Ford Field. Dan Campbell’s late-game strategy turned what could have been another desperate defensive stand into a controlled finish, with Jake Bates kicking a 22-yard field goal as time expired. Instead of asking his defense to protect a seven-point lead, the Lions protected possession and eliminated Green Bay’s opportunity to respond.
